Cooperativism and Youth // COCETA

Cooperativism is instilled in our DNA, which is why we enjoy taking part in initiatives that combine cooperativism and youth. This time, we worked with COCETA (the Spanish Confederation of Worker Cooperatives) to bring cooperatives closer to young people and vice versa. The cooperative model is a multigenerational model that strengthens transgenerational solidarity through its operations and membership system. Nonetheless, as in other industries, the cooperative movement faces the challenge of attracting and retaining talent. This project is the first step towards developing a strategy for dealing with this situation.

Several steps are being taken in this direction:

_To bring people between the ages of 18 and 35 closer to worker cooperatives so that they recognize them as modern and appealing future enterprises in which to develop their professional activity.

_To encourage young cooperative members’ involvement in the management and development of cooperative enterprises and the organizations into which they are integrated, as well as their participation and leadership as active agents.

_To identify and highlight good practices of worker cooperative enterprises led by young people so that they can be replicated in other organizations and entities.

_To ensure generational replacement within our entrepreneurial ecosystem, both within worker cooperatives and within sector organizations.
